OUR HISTORY

Established in 1996, Solulab is a proud South African manufacturer of a broad range of high quality laboratory reagents, including the medical, industrial, food and mining industries, as well as the water testing market.

The products supplied include titrants, indicators, buffers, calibration standards, stains and water test kits.

Reagents can be made to customer specifications to meet unique requirements.  

All source materials are from reputable suppliers, who we have long standing relationships with, and who understand the importance of supplying good quality products. Our water is of the highest quality, having been purified through a four chamber Reverse Osmosis System.

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

We believe that this illustrates our commitment to supplying products of the highest quality and operating our business with responsibility to our staff and the environment. Our initial certification was in 2021 and we have recently successfully completed our second surveillance audit.

As a business, we pride ourselves in ensuring that our customers receive quality products and fully understand the reputational risk that deviating from this could cause.

QUALITY POLICY

CUSTOMER FOCUS

SOLULAB shall only deliver products and services of which the complete set of realised characteristics satisfies the
requirements of our customers. Achieving this will be through identification and understanding of the needs,
expectations and requirements of our current and future customers. We shall demonstrate compliance with
these requirements by certifying and providing the required evidence of conformance to the customer.

LEADERSHIP

We will establish and communicate our vision for SOLULAB through our leadership, exemplify our core values to
guide the behaviour of all to achieve our vision. The Quality Policy shall be communicated to all employees at all
levels throughout our organisation via training and regular internal communications. It is the responsibility of all
management levels to ensure that this policy statement, as well as the requirements emanating from it, are
implemented and consistently reviewed, to reflect what our customers and the company expect from our
business management system.

ENGAGEMENT OF PEOPLE

SOLULAB shall foster a culture that enhances creativity and teamwork while honouring mutual trust and respect
between management and employees. Management shall ensure the allocation of adequately trained human
resources. The assurance of the quality of products and services (to the customer, from suppliers or within the
organisation) is the direct responsibility of every person involved, who must ensure that all customer
requirements and expectations are fully understood, agreed, planned for and complied with. The responsible
person remains accountable for any consequence of their action.

PROCESS APPROACH

We will manage work as interconnected cross-functional processes to ensure the results they produce achieves
pre-defined objectives.

CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT

SOLULAB will provide an environment in which every employee is motivated to continuously analyse and improve
the way they perform processes, this to ensure the continuous improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of
the management system. If non-conformities are found, related to the operation of the QMS, appropriate
corrective and preventative action will be taken.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

We will develop partnerships/alliances with those parties on which we depend for our success and work with
them to jointly improve performance. We will also endeavour to manage those interested parties whose motives
are malevolent.

EVIDENCE-BASED DECISIONS

We will base our decisions on the logical and intuitive analysis of data collected where possible from accurate
measurements of product, process and organisational characteristics.

HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

SOLULAB is committed to provide a safe and healthy working environment for everyone using the premises as a place of work or visiting on business.

To enable this, Management has:

  • Set health and safety objectives and performance criteria for all managers and work areas
  • Annually review health and safety objectives and managers’ performance regarding these objectives
  • Encourage accurate and timely reporting and recording of all incidents and injuries
  • Investigate all reported incidents and injuries to identify the contributing factors and where appropriate, formulate plans for corrective action
  • Actively encourage the early reporting of any pain or discomfort
  • Provide treatment and rehabilitation plans that ensure a safe, early and durable return to work
  • Identify all existing and new hazards and take all practicable steps to eliminate or minimize the exposure to any hazards
  • Ensure that all employees are made aware of the hazards in their work areas and are adequately trained so they can carry out their duties in a safe manner
  • Encourage employee consultation and participation in all health and safety matters
  • Enable employees to elect health and safety representatives
  • Ensure that all contractors and subcontractors are actively managing health and safety for themselves and their employees
  • Promote a system of continuous improvement, including annual reviews of policies and procedures
  • Meet legal obligations as specified in the legislation, codes of practice and any relevant standards or guidelines

Each employee is expected to help maintain a safe and healthy workplace through:

  • Share in the commitment to health and safety
  • Following all safe work procedures, rules and instructions
  • Properly using and storing of all safety equipment and clothing provided
  • Reporting early any pain or discomfort
  • Taking an active role in the company’s treatment and rehabilitation plan, for their early and durable return to work
  • Reporting all incidents, injuries and hazards to the appropriate person

The Health and Safety Committee includes representatives from senior management and elected health and safety representatives. The Committee is responsible for implementing, monitoring, reviewing and planning health and safety policies, systems and practices.   Every manager or supervisor is accountable to the employer for the health and safety of employees working under their direction.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

SOLULAB has identified environmental management and the possible impact that its operations might have
on the environment as of one of the company’s highest priorities. SOLULAB has therefore established
policies and practices to reduce risks to the environment it operates in. Continuous improvement of its
environmental management performance and the prevention of environmental impacts through appropriate
initiatives, controls, provision of resources and training of employees is a commitment.

An Environmental Management System (EMS) has been established which complies with the requirements of
ISO 14001:2015. This integrates environmental management and control with the Business Management
System under the directive of SOLULAB Management and with full support of all employees and suppliers.
Management objectives and targets are established and reviewed on a regular basis to support the
implementation of the Environmental Policy.

These are based on a commitment to the following environmental principles:

  • Prevention of pollution
  • Minimisation of energy and material usage and the production of waste
  • Effective and responsible waste management and disposal
  • Complete environmental assessments for aspects and impacts of all activities that the
    company may undertake, promote, all facilities, equipment and work practices
  • Promoting product reuse and recycling
  • Maintaining high workforce awareness of environmental issues
  • Involving suppliers in environmental initiatives
  • Continually improving the company’s performance
  • Develop, implement and maintain emergency preparedness plans
  • Comply with all environmental legislation, standards and contract requirements that are
    applicable to the company’s operation

The EMS’s effectiveness is monitored and maintained by regular audits and Management Reviews. This
Environmental Policy is communicated to all employees and made available to Interested Parties on request.
The involvement of its workforce and external interested and affected parties in its Environmental Policy is
encouraged by the organisation through effective communication processes.
